Brussels Sprouts Roodnerf Seeds 2g
Overview
Brussels Sprouts Roodnerf is a traditional open-pollinated variety producing sturdy plants with plump, medium-sized green sprouts. The variety is well suited to sandy, sandy-loam and other reasonably light soils.
Roodnerf develops over a long growing season, providing fresh Brussels sprouts from autumn into winter. The flavour becomes sweeter and more rounded after the plants have experienced several light frosts, making it an excellent vegetable for late-season and Christmas harvesting.

Growing Conditions and Care
Choose a sunny or lightly shaded position with fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Brussels sprouts grow best in firm ground, as loose soil may result in unstable plants and poorly formed sprouts.
Prepare the growing area in advance by incorporating well-rotted compost or manure. Firm the soil before planting and avoid freshly cultivated, excessively loose ground.
Water consistently during prolonged dry weather and apply mulch around the plants to conserve moisture. Protect young seedlings from slugs, snails, pigeons and cabbage root fly where necessary.
As the plants grow, firm the soil around their bases and provide support in exposed locations. Remove yellowing lower leaves to improve airflow around the developing sprouts.
Harvesting and Use
Begin harvesting mature sprouts from the bottom of the stem, working upwards as the remaining sprouts develop. Pick them when they are firm, tightly closed and an appropriate size for use.
Roodnerf sprouts can be harvested from autumn into winter. Their flavour generally becomes sweeter after several light frosts.
Enjoy freshly harvested Brussels sprouts steamed, boiled, roasted or sautéed. They are excellent served with winter dinners or added to gratins, stir-fries and seasonal vegetable dishes.
