Perennial Rock Garden Flower Seed Mix
Overview
This Perennial Rock Garden Flower Seed Mix contains a varied selection of compact, low-growing and creeping perennial flowers. Growing approximately 15–25 cm tall, the mixture creates a colourful display without overwhelming smaller garden spaces.
Perfect for rockeries, alpine-style gardens, gravel gardens, border edges, troughs and containers, these perennial flowers return for multiple seasons once established. The mixture provides varied flower colours, forms and flowering times from spring through early autumn.

Sowing Instructions
Sow indoors during April in trays or pots filled with moist seed compost. Alternatively, sow outdoors from mid-May to mid-July in a prepared seedbed.
Sow as thinly as possible so the different seedlings have sufficient room to develop and can be handled more easily when transplanting. As the mixture contains seeds of different sizes, scatter them evenly and cover with only a light layer of fine soil. Keep the seedbed consistently moist during germination.
When the seedlings are large enough to handle, prick them out to prevent overcrowding. Transplant them into their permanent positions during October or November, allowing approximately 15–20 cm between plants.
Growing Conditions and Care
Choose a sunny or lightly shaded position with light, free-draining soil. Rock garden flowers generally perform best where excess rainwater can drain away quickly, particularly during Ireland’s wetter winter months.
Improve heavy soil with horticultural grit or coarse sand before planting. Water regularly while young plants establish, but avoid keeping the ground permanently wet. Once established, many plants within the mixture will tolerate occasional dry conditions.
Remove faded flowers where practical to maintain a neat display and encourage further flowering. As this is a mixed selection, individual plants may have slightly different moisture, space and flowering requirements.
Flowering and Garden Use
Established plants can flower at different times from approximately April to September. Seedlings will concentrate on developing roots and foliage after sowing, with the fullest display generally appearing from the following season.
Plant the mixture in groups around rocks, along sunny border edges or in naturally shaped pockets of soil. It can also be used to create colourful displays in alpine troughs, raised beds and wide outdoor containers.
The range of flowers and flowering periods adds seasonal interest while providing visiting bees and other garden pollinators with additional sources of nectar and pollen.
